The United States Armed Forces, also known as the United States military, are charged with defending the people of the United States of America from all hostile military forces, such as foreign states or the terrorists. It is structured into six branches of service, as following shows:

Terminator Salvation[]
After the Judgement Day, most of the US army was annihilated. The four-star US general Hugh Ashdown was the only high ranking survivor of the army, using what survived of it to form the core of the Resistance. Terminator Salvation: Cold War
Terminator Dark Fate - Defiance[]
Although badly mauled by Judgment Day, significant portions of the US military survived long enough to engage in open combat with Legion. A significant mechanized force of military troops rallied and attempted to defend the city of Atlanta from a Legion assault, which was considered the last stand of the US Army. Despite inflicting heavy losses on robot forces, US forces took heavy losses, with many of their officers killed in the process, and some following the leadership of locals like police officer Stevens. Eventually, after several groups of civilians were evacuated, US forces withdrew from Atlanta to save their strength. At this point, it's become clear that most, if not all, of the United States' Government and top military leadership had been wiped out, leaving command in the hands of lower-ranking officers. Other surviving US formations also existed across the nation, including a force wiped out near Abiquiu and a vehicle detachment gone missing in the Midlands.
Most of the surviving US military would form the Military Group known as the Founders, determined to continue the fight against Legion. Others deserted or went dark, with most either seeking out a living with civilian settlements, becoming mercenaries in the new wasteland for groups like the Cartel, or joining other resistance groups like the Movement. Although the United States military would be disbanded after Atlanta, its legacy persisted as various forces fought Legion with surviving military hardware and soldiers with military training.
