A Terminator was sent from 2022 to assassinate human scientist Malcolm Lee[1] and protect his son Kenta Lee who was the man who sent him.
History[]
Inside the Terminator Factory, a Terminator was created with the sole purpose of eliminating Malcolm Lee and protecting Kenta Lee from harm in August 29th, 1997.[2]
The Terminator, dressed in a construction outfit, accosts his target, Malcolm Lee, while he drives on the highway by crashing himself into the front of his car. Malcolm tries to escape from his car, but the Terminator tries to restrain him by grabbing his right arm. To free himself, Malcolm kicks himself free from the Terminator's grip. Two police officers then arrive and try to stop the Terminator, but are killed in the process. Pointing his gun at Malcolm, the Terminator is re-pinned by a truck driven by Eiko, who sandwiches him between her truck and a police car. As Eiko tries to keep the Terminator pinned, he fires his gun at Eiko, managing to hit her left shoulder. Putting her foot on the gas, Eiko drives her truck into the ocean below, causing the Terminator to sink with it.[3]
Afterward, Eiko confronts Misaki about Malcolm's and his three children's whereabouts, mentioning them during her interrogation.[3]
After being submerged in the water by Eiko, the Terminator does a damage assessment on himself and discovers that he needs new clothing and supplies to handle his task. He takes temporary shelter in a shrine, where he kills a salaryman for his clothes and reconfigures his right arm to have a crossbow. Later, the Terminator breaks into the Lee household, and after scanning the Koneko box, he Wi-Fi-hacks it. This causes the Koneko to go haywire and make Reika chase after it.[4]
Once Reika catches up to the Koneko in an abandoned restaurant, the Terminator appears and tries to convince Reika to leave the place with him. However, Reika refuses, so the Terminator attacks her, causing Reika to hide from him until Kenta and Hiro arrive. Then, the Terminator grabs Hiro by the neck, leaving him helpless.[4]
Coming to Hiro's rescue, Eiko attacks the Terminator with a dumbbell and burns off the left side of his face. Continuing his fight against Eiko, he uses his crossbow against her and misses. Eiko retaliates by breaking a bottle of acid on his left knee, but gets a bolt fired into her knee after she tries to kick him. With Eiko incapacitated, the Terminator follows a blood trail left by Kenta and follows the group to a room with escalators leading to the surface. There, the Terminator tries to attack Reika again, but fails when Reika pushes the emergency stop button on the escalator he rode on, allowing Eiko to save her.[4]
From there, Eiko continues her fight against the Terminator by splashing acid on an elevator door and having Reika open it so she can push him through it and have him fall to the bottom. To Eiko's surprise, Reika knew of the Terminator's identity. Afterward, the Terminator confronts Eiko and Reiko as they steal a cop car and drive away. Moments after this, a motor cop arrives at the scene.[4]
In possession of a police motorcycle and outfit, the Terminator enters the police station where Misaki and the boys are. There, Misaki informed Detective Fujino about the Terminator, as the man in question broke into the gun cabinet, stole some weapons, and then killed several police officers. He soon encounters Detective Shiraki, who tries to stop him, but to no avail. The Terminator then kills several police officers who accost him and then Fujino, who tries to stop him.[5]
Out in the corridor, the Terminator grabs onto Hiro, but Misaki uses a fire extinguisher to rescue Hiro. This escalates to Misaki being revealed to be a Machine too, but to what model was unknown. Before the Terminator can eliminate Misaki, Shiraki stops him and assumingly kills him, which allows Misaki and the boys to escape.[5]
From a faraway distance from Misaki's group, the Terminator locates Misaki's location, and before it can move out, several 1NNO block his path, forcing him to deal with them all.[6]
The Terminator is mentioned during Kenta's accusation against Misaki as being either another Terminator or 1NNO. He then mentions in Eiko's confession to Eiko that she and the Terminator are from the future and elaborates on his plausible goals. Which is having to force Malcolm or Kenta to shut down Kokoro.[6]
In an abandoned building, the Terminator configures a 1NNO head to his left shoulder as a way to be recognized as non-hostal by the 1NNO robots.[6]
The Terminator visits the shrine that Misaki, Hiro, and Kenta are at, and there, the Terminator tracks down Misaki's location. From there, he rides his motorcycle to Cat Town, where he confronts and captures Kenta after tricking him into thinking he was Reika. After capturing Kenta, the Terminator is called out by the real Reika, who then impersonates Kenta, assuring her to stay where she is and will be "upstairs" soon. Reika finds that confusing as there isn't a stairway there. The Terminator is last scene riding his motorcycle with Kenta on his lap.[7]
The Terminator briefly takes Kenta to his shrine hideout to resupply himself. Once that is completed, he takes Kenta to Cortex Industries, where he mimics Kenta's voice, asking that the electromagnetic pulse be shut down. Initially, the 1NNO robots decline, but the Terminator, still mimicking Kenta, insists they do it, and they capitulate and allow them entry into the building.[8]
Reaching Kokoro's chamber, Kenta speaks to his father through an intercom as the Terminator holds a gun to his back. Their conversation ends when Malcolm refuses to let them in.[8]
After Malcolm refuses to let him inside Kokoro's chambers, the Terminator threatens to kill Kenta, making Malcolm open the door to Kokoro's chamber. However, Malcolm warns the Terminator that nothing he does will change their fate. Before the Terminator can harm Kenta, Eiko arrives, causing the Terminator to flee through a wall and into a server room with many catwalks. The Terminator briefly fights against Eiko, but then Misaki takes her place.[9]
The Terminator fights against Misaki, and once Kenta tries to stop him while debris is going to fall on top of him, the Terminator astonishingly protects him. Kenta runs away, and the Terminator tries to pursue him, but is again stopped by Misaki, who, once he gets to his mercy, is shot at by Eiko. Eiko leads the Terminator through a C4 trap and only manages to remove nearly all of its Rubber skin. Grabbing and crushing Eiko's right arm, the Terminator is attacked by Malcolm, who uses a coolant line to freeze his right hand, but in the process, the Terminator fires a crossbow arrow into his chest.[9]
A distraught Kenta runs toward his father but is taken toward the EMP chamber, where the Terminator reveals that his father and family have abandoned him. The Terminator gives him two choices: return to his family or come into the EMP chamber to live. Kenta chooses the latter, and there, as the Terminator, pre-activates the EMP and reveals that he was sent from the future by him. It turns out Kenta's future self had secured a deal with Skynet to forge a human-Skynet alliance.[9]
Once the preparations are done, the Terminator closes off the chamber door and faces off against a legion of 1NNO robots who try to enter the chamber. However, the 1NNO robots manage to overpower the Terminator, break into the EMP room, and destroy the Terminator. After the Eiko and the others leave Cortex Industries, a INNO robot presents the upper part of the Terminator's skull.[9]
Behind the Scenes[]
This Terminator is the antagonist of Terminator Zero, voiced by Timothy Olyphant. It was nicknamed "Creepy Fish Man" by showrunner Mattson Tomlin. Tomlin has stated that "He's [the Terminator] not handsome, he’s a little cross-eyed. Very spooky. Someone you do not want to meet down a dark alley."[10]
Trivia[]
- Compared to the T-800 characters in other media, this version changes clothes constantly and has physical features not found in the rest, such as a port in its mouth, which enables it to link to the severed head of a 1NNO.
