SYSTEM OVERLOAD!

In the terrible aftermath of Judgement Day, the scattered survivors of Skynet's nuclear holocaust slowly emerged from the wreckage, banding together in a desperate bid for survival. As their numbers grew, they learned how to evade the relentless machines - and eventually, how to fight back against them.

Soon, an organized resistance movement rose out of the ashes, and bit by bit the shattered remnants of humanity began to take back their world. At the center of it all was one man - a familiar face whose past turned out to hold the key to the future!

Master programmers DECLAN SHALVEY and LUKE SPARROW wrap up their second story arc in appropriately apocalyptic style with The Terminator #10 - featuring algorithmically optimized covers by SHALVEY, EDWIN GALMON, CAT STAGGS, and DAVID COUSENS!

Plot summary for "Memory Box"[]

2001, Sector B-746. A ruined city. A Tech-Com squad moves through the night on a mission to disrupt one of Skynet’s supply routes. Their leader, known to some as the Old Man and to others as the Major, checks his watch almost obsessively, unsettling the new recruit. Another Resistance soldier, Singh, reprimands the kid and reminds him that their leader is a veteran, one of the first to fight back after Judgment Day. The Major interrupts, telling them the shipment they’re waiting for is about to arrive. When asked how he knows, he replies that machines run like clockwork. His name is Major Harper Duggan.

The ambush is sprung, but before the squad can finish, a massive new model of HK-Tank appears, ten times larger than any they’ve seen before. It opens fire.

Harper flashes back to Idaho, 1971. A construction site in the middle of nowhere. He stands, bloodstained, a woodcutter’s axe in hand. Several bodies lie at his feet, including a T-800 with its human disguise destroyed.

Back in 2001, the recruit helps Duggan up. Only three squad members are still alive, including him. The kid, who had planted charges on a bridge, insists the mission is lost. Duggan disagrees: they must strike back hard before Skynet brings reinforcements. Seeing the kid’s hesitation, Duggan shows him a picture of his wife (hidden away, but far from safe) and his “memory box,” filled with photos of long-dead relatives. The recruit has a picture as well, of someone who once protected him, but refuses to share it. Duggan tells him to hold onto it, but warns that one day he may have to let it go.

The two regroup with the other survivor, Sparks, evaluate the situation, and Duggan lays out a plan. Like clockwork, another HK-Tank appears fifteen minutes later. The team moves to attack, but Sparks steps on a wooden pallet, alerting the machine. It kills him in an explosion of fire. Duggan draws its fire to give the recruit time to retreat, and the tank seems to recognize him. As the machine demolishes the church tower where Duggan has taken position, the recruit uses the last explosive charge, hurling it at the tank while simultaneously triggering the bridge charges he had planted earlier. The blast cripples the massive machine and destroys the bridge.

Later, the recruit is debriefed by Cooper, a Tech-Com officer. Harper Duggan’s body has not been found. The kid reflects: the Major always seemed to know what was coming, yet the new HK-Tank had caught him off guard. He wonders what he was talking about when he said he knew what was coming. He remembers Duggan’s lessons about fighting and protecting loved ones, staring at the photo he carries.

Cooper asks, “Say, kid, what do they call ya?”

The photo shows a woman sitting on a jeep, a dog by her side.
