Terminator the coaster

Terminator Salvation: The Ride is a wooden roller coaster located at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. It is located at Cyclone Bay, adjacent to Déjà Vu, where Psyclone last stood. It debuted to the media on May 21, 2009, and opened to the public on May 23, 2009. The ride's name was changed to Apocalypse since Six Flags no longer have the rights to Terminator Salvation in 2011.

Ride Elements[]

During its run as Terminator Salvation: the Ride, it featured on-board audio via speakers in the back of each car, a first for any wooden roller coaster. The audio for the coaster was linked to an audio box at the back of the train. Within the first few months of operation, technical difficulties caused the audio to be removed. The ride also consists of two tunnels, a "fly-through station" where the trains pass through the top of the boarding area, and pyrotechnic effects. Other elements include a detailed pre-show where Blair Williams (portrayed by Moon Bloodgood) and Barnes (portrayed by Common) warned guests of machines closing in on the facility, and animated T-800 terminators on an assembly line in the queue.

Notes[]

  • It was originally announced as "Terminator: The Coaster" on October 22, 2008, but was later changed to suit the film Terminator Salvation.[1]
  • The storyline follows Williams investigating an abandoned bunker at a post-Judgment Day Six Flags Magic Mountain, who finds that the facility is populated by civilians (riders). When she and Barnes find out that the machines are on their way, they concoct a plan to deliver the civilians to safety via abandoned high-speed Transrail trains (the actual roller coaster).
  • Despite no longer being themed, one prop from the movie remains. The prop is found in the outdoor portion of the queue, a jeep that was used in the movie. Although it is not meant for guest access, many guests are allowed to take pictures inside the vehicle to this day.
