Terminator II (also known as Shocking Dark, Alienators and Contaminator) is a 1990 Philipine-Italian science fiction film written by Claudio Fragasso and directed by Italian film director Bruno Mattei.
Background[]
Despite the film's original title and artwork presenting it as a sequel to 1984 film The Terminator, it is not officially associated with that film and has more in common with the 1986 film Aliens. The year after Mattei's film was came out, Terminator 2: Judgment Day (the official Terminator sequel) was released. Though released worldwide under different titles, the film was never released in the United States due to licensing problems.
Plot summary[]
Set in the year 2000, the city of Venice has been polluted to the point where an evacuation has been forced, and a group of scientists are sent by the Tubular Corporation to investigate the cause. They are assisted by an elite team of commandos known as the Megaforce as they search a vast underground complex located beneath Venice's streets.
As they venture through the complex, they are attacked by crazed humans and bio-mechanical monstrosities.
Connections to the official series[]
Though the film barely resembles its namesake in terms of story, it still contains elements of the Terminator series proper, such as cyborgs disguised as humans, as well as a post-apocalyptic setting on Earth in the future, and time travel. Also, the shotguns in the film are outfitted with folding stocks that make them resemble the Franchi SPAS-12 semi-automatic shotgun (which was one of the firearms used by the T-800 in the original movie). Used by nearly all members of the Megaforce, these shotguns are not actually SPAS-12 shotguns.
The main protagonist, Dr. Sara Drumble, also has a similar first name to Sarah Connor, the protagonist of the original Terminator.
