The Termination of Skynet (2nd attempt) refers to the attack of the Cyberdyne Building made by Miles Dyson, the T-800, Sarah Connor and John Connor.
The Attack[]
Sarah Connor, who wished to stop Judgment Day from happening, used files from the T-800 to track down Miles Dyson at his home in hopes of killing him.
She initially attempted the assassination with a Colt Model 653 carbine by firing a single shot to his head, but Dyson evaded the bullet at the last second when he was momentarily distracted by his son, Danny Dyson. Sarah proceeds to switch the carbine onto the fully automatic mode, before Dyson took cover behind his desk. Sarah Connor managed to destroy his computer and prototype, but failed to hit him.
After her carbine runs dry, Sarah entered the home with a Detonics Custom 1911 and began opening fire on Dyson at close range, hitting him in the shoulder and cornering his family. Dyson asked Sarah what she wanted from him, and Sarah, enraged, vocally blamed him for everything that was to happen without giving a clear explanation, only confusing Dyson. Sarah proceeds to break down emotionally and is unable to kill Dyson in front of his wife and children, as he is completely innocent.
At that moment, Sarah's son, John Connor, arrived along with the T-800. The Terminator helps control the bleeding out of Dyson's wound, and proceeds to cut off the outer flesh of his arm and hand, exposing his cybernetic interior. Both Dyson and his wife are shocked to see that it was exactly identical to the one in the laboratory and realized the connection to him at this point. The T-800 explains the future of Skynet and the effects it will have on humanity, which convinces Dyson to quit Cyberdyne and destroy the prototype unit, computers, disk drives, optical drives, files, notes and any other contents of his office. However, the Terminator made him realize that as long as the laboratory and technological artifacts at Cyberdyne were intact, Skynet could still exist as others would use his research and continue to create Skynet.
Dyson, along with the Connors and T-800, goes to the Cyberdyne building to destroy the research and sends his family into hiding. His wife agrees that Skynet had to be destroyed to prevent Judgement Day.
Upon arrival, the security guard, Carl Gibbons, refuses to allow the quartet to enter the building due to the lack of proper paperwork. Sarah Connor and the T-800 forced their way in a gun-point. Dyson and John gather the advanced technological artifacts of the original Terminator from the high-security lab and prepare to destroy the entire laboratory itself with a massive polydichloric euthimal bomb.
By that time, another security guard had alerted the police of the break-in, and large numbers of Los Angeles police officers arrive on the scene, heavily armed and ready for combat. The T-800 uses a minigun to open fire on the police, destroying their cars and sending them fleeing. Just as the bomb was ready, a SWAT team storms the building, opening fire at both Sarah Connor and Miles Dyson, fatally wounding the latter in the process before he took cover. Sarah Connor manages to escape, before the police approach the dying Dyson.
Knowing that his wounds were fatal, Dyson warned the police to escape, just before he took his last breath and dropped the remote control on the detonator. The explosion destroys the lab and a sizable portion of Cyberdyne Headquarters.
Aftermath[]
The moment that the explosion occurred, the Connors and the T-800 were in an elevator, preparing to flee the building. The T-800 proceeds to steal a police van, taking both John and Sarah with him. Seeing the trio flee, the T-1000 steals a police helicopter and pursues them all the way to the a steel mill. Following a long and drawn-out battle between the T-800 and Sarah Connor against the T-1000, the T-800 uses a M79 grenade launcher to knock the T-1000 into a pit of molten steel, destroying it. Following this, John Connor is ordered to throw the artifacts from the original Terminator into the molten steel, before the T-800 orders Sarah to lower him into the pit as well.
The events all took place during the Assassination of John Connor (1st attempt). Even though the building was destroyed, Judgment Day still occurs in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and this event had only delayed it. In the Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Turk is responsible for Judgment Day and John and Sarah Connor pursue it.
In Terminator: Dark Fate, the termination of Skynet was successful and the AI was erased from existence. However, three years later John Connor was assassinated by another T-800 sent back by Skynet before its destruction known as Carl. Though Skynet was gone, it would be replaced by the AI Legion.
