Continuity Errors[]

JMan2.0 23:31, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Has McG clarified how to explain certain continuity errors yet. First off it was never stated, and I think it would have been mentioned, that John Connor had ever time traveled. Continuing from that how can he return to a pre-Judgement Day world in 2011? In Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Judgement Day occurred in 2004. Also, he has stated that he may have Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor in it. As interesting as that would be she had died even before the events of the third movie in 1997 of terminal leukemia. These errors are just too glaring to ignore.

I wouldn't call them errors. After all, how can there be continuity when there is timetravel? Plus the movie isn't out yet so we don't have enough information to criticise. But to the main concern, we are not in the original timeline were John is born to someone other than Kyle Reese, and where no terminators have been sent back to kill them. This timeline's history has been changed several times so dates and deaths may be different. Let's just wait and see. Grimace427 13:26, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

In any story with a reverse termporal relocation (AKA travelling back in time or rTr) the plot will fit into one of three types. The first rTr1 is the Backstep story. In a back step story the timeline is fixed and imutable. Backstep stories often include a closed loop or predestined paradox whereby a past event relies on a future event. T1 is an excellent example of a Backstep story. The second type or rTr2 is the paradox story. The paradox story is used as the greatest proof of why time travel can never occur. In a paradox story a traveller can change the past, however to do so changes the whole timeline resulting in the end of the space time continuum. T2 with its "lets destroy all links to the future" plot is a paradox story, after all without Skynet there can be no John Connor. The final type or rTr3 stories are the multi-verse stories. In a multi-verse story for every possible outcome to any situation there is a corresponding timeline. The stories allow for any possability, without having to worry about existing coninuity because you simply imply that you are in a different reality than the one you started in. Both T3 and T:SCC followed this reasoning. This means that while on one hand you could tell a story of Sarah, John, and Cameron preventing skynet from ever being built (a happy ending), it also means there is a reality where Skynet of the future defeated the resistance and exerminated the human race (a not so happy ending). Sadly as mentioned the franchise has drifted into the realm of rTr3. T:Salvation for me was a salvation for the franchise as it did away with the whole time travel element and focused the story in the future war. My fear is that there will be a return to the "lets go back in time" story, which will probably destroy the franchise.--TSwiftFan1346 16:15, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

I dunno why Mc G bothered to make T Salvation. It had so many holes in it, I felt like it deserved an overall grade of C or worse. Clearly the budget was spent primarily on graphics...why? T1 managed to be 100 times better with probably one one-thousandth of the money. I hated Salvation, I was expecting so much more than a rip off of Mad-Max and Transformers. Common that water terminator scene came straight outta Transformers, and that chase sequence in the tow truck with Kyle was played better by Mel Gibson (including the kicking of the windshield). I liked the moto terminators, but had lots of trouble with the harvester terminator that everybody seems to love. How did that thing magically appear? Was it walking on stealth mode? And common, did it have to be 100 feet tall and crap out motorcycles. Where did they get these ideas from a 10 year old boy? A military machine with military logic would never build such complicated designs, the same goes for the flying HK's. In the original movie they were much more terrifying than when they were doing air to air combat with A-10's in this film. Why are the women of the future so beautiful, and how come everybody looked as if they had just come from the gym instead of starving/scavaging food where ever they could find it? And that that attempted rape scene with the hill billies was whack. And what about the whole heart transplant thing? Common man, if McG had to resort to that kind of lame movie making logic, why did he have John Connor get injured so badly. That was the last straw for me...he made the movie for little kids instead of the real fans who wanted to see realism, and logic...mostly I wanted to be intrigued and I was severely let down.

Idea[]

This is what i think should happen in terminator 5:the Resistance is planning to invade Skynet, but Skynet has started making more T-800s,Later on in the film,an 800(Who i think should be played by Arnold Schwarzenegger)infiltrates the resistance, however,John Connor manages to stun the machine offline, when john and other humans reach Skynet territory,an army of machines, including T-600s defend the entrance, after somehow gettin past them, john heads down a corridor but is attcked by the first of its series,a T-1000,Just as the liquid metal machine is about to kill connor, the T-1000 is shot in the head by the arriving reprogrammed T-800,sent to protect john, after a brutal batlle between the two terminators,Skynet commands the T-1000 to be sent back through time to eliminate john while he is ten years old,(which will be the setting of T2:judgement Day.In order to stop the T-1000,the Resistance send back the T-800 to 1995.

You guys probably think this idea is crap,i just thought of this at the top of my head--Mickster trickster 14:34, October 30, 2010 (UTC)

This movie should have been much more gritty, with the resistance fighting a guerilla war in the rubble. I liked the sound of the laser machine guns from the tank terminators, and the horrifying sounds the armor made as it passed by, crushing skulls as it meandered along. Salvation should have started here, in the darkness and dust as purple laser beams flew overhead. Instead it began with bad physics and a nuclear explosion which should have killed John Connor in his tracks. I hope that somebody consults some experts in the fields of military logic, medical logic and physics before the filming of T5 begins. Please do not make more bubble gum junk McG...save it for the next charlies angels flix so that the little girls and pre teens can appreciate it.

Please McG just let the franchise die in peace... enough with the videogame FMVs dressed up as movies. :-( --Andrew.kingham 10:46, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

My idea is to change the victory conditions. In each film to date our heroes have been given an enemy to beat (T-800, T-1000, T-X, Skynet Facility) and they have always succeeded. Skynet is supposed to be the single greatest threat to mankind, and apart from judgement day we haven't really seen what it can do. As a result I no longer see Skynet and its machine armies as that big a threat. Set T5 in the aftermath of Salvation. Skynet launches a massive counter offensive against the resistance. Change the victory conditions from beat the enemy to escape and evade the enemy. Furthemore Skynet is now armed with something it never had before, the identity of John's father, Kyle Reese. Our heroes would have to protect both John Connor and Kyle Reese against the backdrop of this overwhelming counter offensive, and it is all they can do to keep themselves alive. At the end our heroes manage to escape the Skynet force but the resistance has been dealt a devastating blow. This would restore Skynet as a credible threat to mankind, and serve as a spring board to launch T6. As for the idea of sending non infiltrating machines into the past, this is just stupid. In the past Skynet's greatest advantage is that those who know the truth are considered loons who should be locked up. If H-K aerials, havesters, etc suddenly popped up in the past then this lunatic fringe would become credible very quickly, and chances are Skynet would never go on line. If it did then we (humans) would deserve to be exterminated for our own stupidity. Lastly I truly think that any return to the past, even with infiltrators, should be avoided at all costs. The films are now in the Future War, let them stay there. Let us see what Skynet is truly capable of, and let us see our heroes bring Skynet down, though not all in the same film.--TSwiftFan1346 17:34, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

I honestly think, what may happen based upon this films overseas take, is that they'll authorize a smaller Terminator 5 and Terminator 6 will serve as a reboot to the entire series. Or, perhaps even, they'll just make the next film a reboot and be done with it. We all know a reboot is going to eventually happen... - Nx1701g 19:53, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

T4 was fine for me, a great way to start the war. But McG's ideas for a part 5 are just nuts. okay I have read the books and the comics and watched all the films, never ever in any of those "possible futures" has John Connor time traveled. I think McG is off his rocker on this one. Okay he said pre-judgement day, um that one not be 2011 because by making Salvation and everything they talked about in that movie that excludes the TV show from being a jump off point.I do agree with the origins of the T-1000 being in it I do agree with time travel but not for a part 5 leave that for part 6 and the T-800s and T-1000 go back in time then maybe jump forward in that one to show 2032 when the T-850 and TX go back as well. Judgment Day was in 2004 not 2011 so McG should be fired from T6 or chinge his mind. Oh, the Halcyon company has gone bankrupt and the rights are up for bids for the franchise. We T-Fand might have a lucky break because this could mean James Cameron or another better filmmaker might buy the rights and give us a real sequel to Salvation and not a lmae ass excuse for a time travel movie that clearly goes against what heppened in part 3.User:T-888

James should have bought it back since he's like the Father of the Franchise-Boba fett 32 02:43, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Cameron sold all his rights to the series years ago. - Nx1701g 14:31, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

I hope they find a way to tie-in TSCC with the new TV show they're planning, I also kinda hope they recast the same actors for their specific roles, since Genisys will be an alternate timeline from T1 the TV show will have full rights to deviate from the TSCC timeline and all other Terminator films while being able to retain Derek Reese and Cameron. after all Derek's absence from the films can be explained by an off screen death or by simply assuming him to play the role of a background character of low importance. Allison Young/Cameron's template would still be born and could appear on the TV show as either. Jaque355 (talk) 23:43, October 28, 2014 (UTC)

jensen ackles as john connor.[]

I was googling T5 and found this page http://lounge.cwtv.com/showthread.php?t=708013. Do you think it's real.SUP3RCHUBBY 01:39, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

Sry it was deleted.SUP3RCHUBBY 01:40, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

James Cameron[]

This states that if they do not make a Terminator film by 2018 then James Cameron will have the rights again, is this just conjecture or is it for real? I just want to have this cleared up, could Cameron jump back it at any point because we all know that he is busy with Avatar 2,3 and possibly a 4th film so, I think that it is likely that he will gain the rights again but not direct it and the Avatar films won't be done by then anyway so what does everyone else think about this. And sorry I have not been on this wiki in a while. T-888 22:43, October 26, 2011 (UTC)

First I heard of it, though I don't think the rights will revert back to him since he previously had sold all of his rights to the series to Carolco. - Nx1701g 03:49, October 30, 2011 (UTC)
It's fairly common in the entertainment industry for the rights of certain intellectual properties to "revert" to their original owner if a certain amount of time has passed with no development on productions. This often doesn't count with novels, games and comics (as those are, for the most part, dealt with differently anyhow), but film/television productions. It's why there's been certain movies and shows over the years that have been so... awful, as they were produced/rushed into production, to retain the rights. A good example would be "Fantastic Four", the older, "original" movie made twenty or so years ago by a film studio simply to keep the rights of the franchise (thereby never intending to release the movie). Another example would be, I think "The Punisher" which has recently gone back to the comic studio as far as film rights go (I forget who), and there was a couple other DC/Marvel ones on the verge of doing that as well. As far as "The Terminator" franchise goes though, I'm not entirely sure, between selling his interests anyways (and all out saying he doesn't want to return to the franchise, anyway, and when would he have time, what with Avatar and all), and then the divorce with Linda Hamilton (which I read that she sued for the rights during such time), it does seem somewhat unlikely that it would. One never really knows, however, Hollywood works in mysterious (and rather strange) ways... --Terran Officer 07:03, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

sarah is better of dead they shoulden be her back User:Olliedudley you know this is a fake plot right ? User:Olliedudley

Information[]

Is the poster released by official? And do we need actor info now (because I don't know if the filming starts or not, many thing will possibly be changed in future.)? --TX55TALK 23:59, February 20, 2014 (UTC)

Name change[]

As the film is officially called Terminator: Genesys, shouldn't the name of the page be changed to reflect that? --GusF (talk) 18:36, September 4, 2014 (UTC)

I think that we should. - Nx1701g (talk) 00:37, September 6, 2014 (UTC)

Leaked stuff?[]

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1340138/board/thread/236094096

Looking at this as a leak, does any of this warrant any inclusion? After all, we've included material regarding leaks of the previous film before. Ggctuk (talk) 10:04, October 28, 2014 (UTC)

It's not official so no. - Nx1701g (talk) 01:45, October 30, 2014 (UTC)

T-800 sent back to protect 9yo sara[]

It would make sense that John (before whatever changed him) or Kathrin would send at least a T-850 series made from hyper-alloy or an even more advanced 800 series unit to protect Sara instead of the titanium crafted T-800 series. As the series T-850 has a stronger chassis and several other unknown upgrades it would be a much more likely unit to send back when you want to protect your mother and father. I would also set the units neural net processor on read and write to make sure it could adapt to any situation. If I remember right the original T-800 sent to kill sera was an older titanium model of the series so you would want to send a stronger model if you want to defeat it quickly. I don't think so as TG seems to be a total reboot. --TX55TALK 03:08, April 30, 2015 (UTC)

Trailer as a spoiler?[]

Unless the cyborg in TG is a Fake John Connor, I will say: They did it again! MAKING TRAILER A DAME SPOILER like last time. --TX55TALK 09:26, June 17, 2015 (UTC)

Terminator theme[]

why do I keep hearing the terminator theme when I come on this article? --Dayle14 (talk) 10:40, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

It's the motion poster at the bottom of the page. I don't even know why it's still here. Ggctuk (talk) 12:32, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

Why can we not include the plot or review info?[]

As the title asks, why are we waiting until tomorrow to include information that has been available since last week, when there were several early showings of the film? It's already been reviewed by several major outlets as well, and I know we're not the same site, but even Wikipedia sees fit to include that information. We know 'the whole picture', as it is, so the information should no longer be 'inappropriate for inclusion' Ggctuk (talk) 08:04, June 30, 2015 (UTC)

This Wiki is not them. The film is not officially released until tomorrow. It's been the policy and was also used with Terminator Salvation. - Nx1701g (talk) 22:28, June 30, 2015 (UTC)
Okay, that's fine, fair enough if it's a policy (even if I don't quite understand as it's referring to early screenings and not a leak of the film). However, the film has been officially released in the US as of today, so the information is now no longer 'inappropriate for inclusion'. Ggctuk (talk) 08:39, July 1, 2015 (UTC)
I know it is not leak. However, it's common used in various wiki sites to lock a story page until 1 or 2 week after the release because not everyone can watch the film immediately on the day of premier. --TX55TALK 01:42, July 2, 2015 (UTC)

Brett Azar and Aaron Williamson and misc[]

Just to point out that Aaron Williamson does NOT play young Guardian. He plays the Terminator seen at the start of the film that John shoots when he rescues child Kyle. The Guardian in 1975 is played, as with the T1 Terminator, by Brett Azar (He's credited as "Young Guardian/Terminator T-800"). Williamson is credited as "Refugee/Terminator".

I might also point out that there is no 'T-7-T' in the film. The film's companion material refers to those four-legged walkers as "Spider Tanks". Ggctuk (talk) 13:09, July 4, 2015 (UTC)

Timeline[]

2017 judgment day is a much more plooted timeline that is the result of 2 or three time jumps by infiltrators that succeeds in there missions to kill john then insure skynets creation. it may be the result of the 2004 judgment day skynet calculating how much time should be allowed for humans to advance to ensure its victory without the acceleration of future tech that was needed to create it in 1997 and then 2004 well supplying data behind the seems as needed. that gets a little confusing but uses string theory to create a solution to skynet's troubles, something the sentient AI would be more than capable of doing.--Guyver92 (talk) 23:39, September 1, 2015 (UTC)
