Lieutenant General Robert Brewster was a United States Air Force officer and in charge of Cyber Research Systems and the father of Katherine Brewster. He was wary of allowing Skynet to take over all defense programs and would rather have top-level control of the new defense system be human, hence his reluctance to activate Skynet's full control of itself.
He was originally meant to be a leader of the Resistance in the alternate original timeline, a factor that was changed due to the destruction of the Cyberdyne Building. However, General Brewster was killed when Skynet was activated and uploaded into all military systems to stop a computer supervirus. Moments before Brewster threw the switch, T-X activated the prototype Series 1 and HK-Drone kept at the Cyber Research Systems division building, injected them with it's arsenal of nanotechnological transjectors. The system and it's machine army became self-aware and began attacking the complex's staff. Brewster himself was killed in his command center by the T-X. Many other Air Force personnel present at the complex were also killed, prompting Skynet's efforts to destroy humanity. In his last moments, Brewster instructed his daughter and John Connor to escape to Crystal Peak. Both originally thought it housed the Skynet core and they could destroy it, preventing Judgment Day, but it really was a fallout shelter, meant to insure their survival.
