Raven Technologies, also known as Raven Tech, was one of the corporations researching artificial intelligence in the leadup to Judgment Day.
History[]
After the Vietnam war, the US government started secretly researching alternatives to an enlisted army. Raven Technologies was created as a dummy corporation and acted as a front for the government. Raven Tech began to steal advanced robotics and artificial intelligence research through corporate espionage.
After the original T-800 was destroyed by Sarah Connor in 1984, the US government used Raven Technologies to study the advanced technology contained in its heavily damaged torso and skull.[1] Raven even allowed Cyberdyne Systems' Bertram Hollister access to the T-800's remains in exchange for Cyberdyne's secrets.[2]
In 1985. Raven Technologies worked in collaboration with the mercenary contractor Rothlake Corporation to produce and test a remote-controlled robotic soldier called Myrmidon. Raven Tech were even rumored to have kept the remains of Kyle Reese for study after his death at hands of the Terminator.[1]
Raven Tech’s other projects were only marginally successful: they launched Project Bellerophon, an AI prototype, in 1992; they were soon forced to scrap it, as it was deemed a complete failure.[2] By the mid-1990s they would be completely displaced by private military contractor Cyberdyne Systems. Nonetheless, they still became a target of Sarah Connor's terrorist campaign, who tried to blow up their offices.[1][2]
In 1996, after a government bailout, Raven Technologies was merged with former corporate rival Cyberdyne; combined, they became the Cyberdyne Research Group under exclusive contract with the United States Air Force. Raven's legacy lived on in the form of Raven Special Project Group, a special Cyberdyne Research Group projects task force involved in industrial espionage, hacking, and other underhanded maneuvers.[2]
Known Personnel[]
The CEO of Raven Technologies in the 1980s was Edward Corvus. Its security corps, Raven Security Guards (RSG), was a formidable force, generally very well-trained and motivated.[3]
Notes[]
- Raven Technologies appeared in one single panel of the third issue of The Terminator: 1984, where Sarah Connor and Ben Oliver blow up one of its plants. The Terminator RPG would greatly expand on its background, explicitly having them be the captors of Kyle Reese and linking it to events from The Terminator: Tempest and The Terminator: Enemy of my Enemy. The campaign book would later feature one adventure focused on assaulting a Raven Technologies facility.
