A T-1000 was sent back to kill Sarah Connor in 1973 when she was nine years old and before she could grow up and give birth to John Connor. An unknown party learned of the assassination attempt and sent a reprogrammed T-800, later known as Pops, back to protect her. While Sarah's parents were killed, te two escape the T-1000. Pops then protected and raised Sarah.
Like in the Original timeline, a T-800 was sent back to kill Sarah in 1984 and Kyle Reese followed. However in this timeline, Sarah and Pops were waiting and easily deactivated the T-800. They rescued Kyle from the T-1000 and fought it, who was aiding by the reactivated T-800 before Reese successfully destroyed the T-800, while the T-1000 was terminated by Sarah and Pops.
Before dissolving the body of the T-800 in acid, its CPU was taken to operate a rough Time Displacement Device made by Sarah and Pops to travel forward in time to stop Judgment Day. With the T-800 completely destroyed, however, Judgment Day was no longer in 1997 but in 2017 instead, which Kyle remembered from a flash of memory from the new timeline he got while being sent back in time.
Kyle and Sarah travelled to 2017 while Pops remained behind to prepare as its damaged flesh sheath would not let him make the trip. In 2017, they found that Skynet had converted John into a T-3000 and he travelled back to 2014 to ensure Skynet's creation by helping Cyberdyne Systems to develop Genisys. Kyle and Sarah were reunited with Pops and assault Cyberdyne Headquarters to destroy Genisys before it could come online. The T-3000 was destroyed in the battle by Pops, using magnetic field generated by the prototype Time Displacement Device and the building was destroyed.
Sarah and Kyle survived in the bunker under the building and were eventually rescued by Pops, who had survived and been upgraded with T-1000-like abilities due to falling in a vat of unprogrammed mimetic polyalloy. The three passed the message about Genisys to the young Kyle and believed that they had destroyed Skynet and saved the world. However, while Genisys was prevented from spreading by their efforts and Judgment Day was stopped, Genisys itself survived as its system core survived underground. Terminator Genisys
