Hiro Lee is the youngest son of Malcolm Lee and his late wife. He's the most sociable of his three children.
History[]
On August 29th, 1997, in the Lee family's living room, Kenta creates a nightlight from various parts of several kitchen appliances for Hiro. Despite Malcolm being impressed by it, he asks that Kenta disassemble it and then asks where Hiro and Reika are, to which Kenta responds they're sleeping.[1]
Afterward, once Misaki arrives home, Reika and Hiro are awake, and Hiro plays with his airplane until he watches his father scold Misaki for returning home late. Before Malcolm leaves for work, Misaki reveals that she purchased a new popular toy cat called a Koneko, which would substitute for a real cat as Hiro is allergic to them. Although Hiro and Kenta were happy about it, Malcolm asked that it be disposed of.[1]
Sometime after their father leaves, Kenta scoffs at his father and laments the double standard that their father lives by. He then explains its meaning to Hiro, who hates it. After getting Misaki's permission to activate the Koneko before she returns it, Hiro and Kenta activate the Koneko.[1]
Hiro eats some cherry tomatoes as Misaki cuts up a fish, which intrigues Hiro, making him ask where she learned to do. Misaki tells the curious Hiro that she grew up in a fishing village, but when Hiro asks where the village is, she draws a blank and cuts herself. Seeing Reika in a pinch by their brother Kenta, Hiro's body slams him, allowing her to escape into her room with the Koneko.[2]
After Misaki fails to convince Reika to leave her room and decides to take care of her cut in the bathroom, Kenta and Hiro try to convince Reika to leave her room. They fail and decide to break into her room, discovering she's escaped. Hence, the boys leave the apartment and go after Reika, finding her on the pathway that leads to the old amusement park where they once spent time with their deceased mother at. The Koneko then runs away from them, forcing the children to pursue it, and once they find it, they discover a room full of 1NNO.[2]
Hiro and Reika follow the Koneko down the tunnelways and discuss why Reika wants to get to the amusement park in remembrance of their deceased mother. When the Koneko spazzed out, and Reika pursues it, Hiro goes to get Kenta to get his help. They regroup with Reika, who the Terminator was attacking, and he grabs onto Hiro's neck until Eiko arrives and saves him. He, alongside Misaki and his siblings, leaves the area only to learn that Kenta has a head injury and needs to be carried by Misaki. When the Terminator closes in on them, they part ways with Reika, who was protected by Eiko, who assures Misaki that she can protect her.[3]
At the police station, Hiro, alongside Kenta and Misaki, are met by detectives Fujino and Shiraki. While Fujino takes Misaki to the interview room, the boys are questioned by Shiraki, who finds Misaki to have a questionable background after speaking to the boys. He later finds them after the Terminator arrives and shoots up the place. In the process of their escape from the Terminator, Misaki is revealed to be a robot herself, and when Misaki hot wires a car escape, she snaps at them and drives off.[4]
Riding in the stolen police car with Kenta and Misaki, witness 1NNOs march through the streets, forcing them to take a different route. They later take refuge in a junkyard where Kenta questions whether or not Misaki truly is on their side or is like the Terminator and the swarms of 1NNOs. Although Hiro defends her, citing she's still the same Misaki they know, Kenta isn't convinced, causing Misaki to cry and leave the car. To Misaki's defense, Hiro proposes the possibility that Misaki was created by their father, which makes Kenta make amends with Misaki. Once Kent replaces Misaki's missing arm with a 1NNO's, Hiro suggests they head to Cat Town, where they'll regroup with Reika, as that's where she'd likely go.[5]
Misaki, Hiro, and Kenta witness a group of 1NNO robots lead a group of people down the street. After it's safe to go, they reach a shrine where Misaki is further injured by a 1NNO robot that explodes. The men at the shrine learn that Misaki is a cyborg trying to attack her, and Hiro tries to stop them but is taken away by one of the men. This causes Misaki to kill four of the men, but the remaining one holds Hiro hostage, and although Misaki regains her composure and tries to reason with the man, he doesn't comply. Hence, Kenta fires at the man's shoulder, releasing Hiro from his grasp. Misaki then consoles the frantic Hiro but is forced to try to reason with Kenta, who threatens Misaki. Hiro tackles him to the ground and tries to punch him, but Misaki stops him. Hiro then argues that Misaki cares for them while their father doesn't.[6]
Finally, at Cat Town, Kenta goes ahead into the fun house where Reika is suspected to be, but when Misaki and Hiro catch up with Reika and Eiko, they learn the Terminator took him.[6]
Hiro appears alongside Reika, Eiko, and Misaki as they exit the Cat Town's Fun House.[7]
Upon exiting the fun house, a couple of 1NNO robots try to approach the group, but Misaki soon stops them, stating that they only want to talk. Misaki's statement was true, as a 1NNO robot tells the group that the children's father wants to see them.[8]
Eventually, the group reaches Cortex Industries. When Hiro and Reika spot their father, they embrace him, but their touching reunion is short-lived as they're forced to head into Kokoro's chamber to avoid any harm or danger. Soon, they see Misaki in trouble, so, Malcolm decides to help her, only to die protecting Eiko. As Hiro and Reika morn their dying father, he reveals that Eiko is his mother and after giving his parting words to her and Kokoro, he dies.[8]
Afterward, Hiro follows his family underground after Kenta chooses not to use the EMP.[8]
Notes[]
- Hiro being close to Misaki even after realizing that she's a machine is similar to the relationship between John Connor and the T-800 or Sarah Connor and Pops.
