The HK-Heat Ray, also known as the Cyberdyne Systems Series R Autonomous Thermal Breaching Biological Deterrent Vehicle or Series R Autonomous Directed Energy Deterrent and Thermal Bore Vehicle, was a specialized six-wheeled Hunter-Killer designed to breach Resistance bases and enforce compliance through intense pain.[1]

Originally developed by Cyberdyne Systems for the US military, the HK-Heat Ray used technology initially intended for crowd control and area denial purposes, employing non-lethal electromagnetic waves that caused intense burning sensations and incapacitating pain without causing lasting harm.[1]

Equipped with a turbine-cooled thermal electron-tunneling mechanism, the Series R HK was exceptionally maneuverable on challenging terrains. This tunneling vehicle could burn holes with diameters ranging from two to six meters through various materials, including rock and metal, using superheated plasma and ionized electrons. However, when directed toward living beings, the HK-Heat Ray became highly lethal, instantly incinerating anyone within range.[1]

When used during tunneling operations, the HK-Heat Ray was intended to capture rather than kill, as undamaged human tissue was highly-valuable for the perfection of Skynet's synthetic skin technology and the regeneration of flesh in its flesh farms. The primary application of the HK-Heat Ray was to gather surviving human populations and transport them to labor camps and flesh farms.[1]
