Future Tense is a scenario for the The Terminator RPG written by Richard August. It is one of the fifteen curated scenarios included in The Terminator RPG Campaign Book.

Publisher Summary[]

A scenario inspired by the Graphic Novel: The Terminator: 2029.

This post-Judgment Day mission, circa 2029, is designed for 3-6 players, including at least one with hacking skills.

Mission Briefing: Pasadena One, a Resistance stronghold and the PCs' home, has been breached. Knowing this day would come, the PCs must work with Tech-Com Sergeant Kyle Reese to evacuate the civilian population and get everyone to safety, 35 miles away.

Plot summary[]

After the Rothlake raid, the Player Characters are sent home to the Pasadena One colony for some rest and recuperation. But the Terminators have discovered the colony’s location, and a major assault is launched on it.[1] The PCs, who are all acquaintances of Kye Reese, are leading a convoy of escape vehicles through the burning wreckage of Pasadena One. They break through a ring of T-600s and manage to escape the HKs, making it into the tundra. However, they now need to contend with a never-ending horde of T-800s.

Saved thanks to the arrival of outriders from Pomona Base, the PCs say Kyle goodbye as he's sent on a desperate mission from John Connor himself.[2] Twelve hours later, the PCs meet an old man who has been rescued from a nearby Terminator facility, claiming to be Kyle Reese himself. He reveals that he traveled back in time and has been imprisoned for years. He asks the PCs to travel back in time, rescue the young Kyle, ensure he doesn't reveal anything that could potentially harm the Resistance, and, if possible, ensure Sarah Connor's safety. Captain Wisher agrees to help the PCs, sending them back to take care of Reese, but also with a laundry list of Terminator time incursions, the same list they uncovered in a previous mission. The list includes instructions for the PCs to try and track down these time-displaced Terminators and investigate what happened to Elise Fong.[1]

Notes[]

  • The Future Tense, Past Tense, and Tense Past missions form a 'mini-campaign' within the full campaign.
  • If played as part of the bigger campaign, the Time Displacement Commandos send the PCs to the past with a "laundry list" of missions to accomplish. That "laundry list" is often the hook for all subsequent scenarios.
