Ben Oliver was a Resistance soldier and close friends with Kyle Reese who travelled back in time in an effort to save his friend and his loved ones.
History[]
The Future[]
Ben Oliver arrived in the Pasadena One colony in 2023.[1] Before Kyle Reese rescued him he was a lone wanderer, feeding off the dead.[2] After arriving in the colony, the parents of a woman called Paige cared after him. Six years later, Ben had a very close relationship with Paige, although neither was ready to accept their feelings for the other.[3]
One night, Kyle Reese returned from a failed recruitment run. When Ben told him they hadn't seen any Terminator in a long time, Kyle found it suspicious, but Ben thought that it was an optimistic sign. That night Ben saw Kyle's picture of Sarah Connor and told his friend that the fact that John Connor gave him a picture of his mother was the creepiest thing he'd ever heard. The light moment was brusquely interrupted by explosions: the machines were attacking. A massive force composed of HK-Tanks, HK-Aerials, and new T-800 infiltrators fell on Pasadena One. The survivors evacuated the colony and headed east, towards the Pomona colony.[4] The group was rescued from the pursuing Terminators by Yankee Company, a group of ex-Resistance soldiers that now killed Terminators just for fun. The torso of a surviving Terminator grabbed Paige and pulled her off their speeding truck, making Ben jump after her and deactivate the Terminator by pulling out its CPU. Ben carried the injured Paige on his back to Yankee Company's base, where he cured her injuries. The couple finally confessed their love and kissed.[1]
Soon afterwards, Kyle returned from an attack on a Skynet facility with a rescued prisoner, an old man that refused to talk to anyone other than Ben Oliver. The old man had an unbelievable story for Ben: he was Kyle Reese.[1] He explained that in a few weeks his younger self would be sent back in time to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor and that he didn't remember anything after Sarah and him fought a pursuing T-800 in a factory, waking up surrounded by strangers that wanted information about Skynet and time displacement. Ben believed this to be a prank by the actual Kyle Reese, but the old man just showed him a strange drawing saying that it would be proof.[2]
Three weeks later, the group was in the Pomona colony when John Connor arrived to take Kyle with him. Ben and Paige had started a relationship and were jokingly planning their future lives together once they defeated the machines. Ben checked Paige's wound and realized that her scar was identical to the design that the old man had showed him. Ben looked for the man, now ready believe his story: the older Kyle explained that his younger self was going to volunteer to stop a T-800 from killing Sarah Connor in the past and asked Ben to travel after him, as whoever kept him prisoner was instrumental in building Skynet. Ben refused, unwilling to leave Paige behind. Not too long later Ben and Paige were patrolling when a naked infiltrator showed up looking for John Connor and brutally killed Paige. Heartbroken, Ben and the older Kyle traveled to the TDE facility and Ben was sent back in time, now with the intention of saving Paige by stopping the war before it started.[2]
The Past[]
Ben arrived in 1984 and quickly got clothes (and glasses) from a nearby mall. After trying to adapt to the strange era, Ben decided to find the factory that old Kyle told him about. He arrived there just in time to see the paramedics roll out the injured Sarah and Kyle's body. Ben followed the black van that carried Kyle's body bag and discovered that he'd been taken to a heavily fortified government facility. Realizing that he couldn't possible rescue Kyle on his own, Ben tried to track Sarah Connor down, finding her four months later in Borrado, Mexico, where she'd started her paramilitary training. Ben explained that he also came from 2029 and that Kyle may be alive.[5] Sarah joined Ben and both crossed the border, Ben realizing that she was pregnant and deducing that Kyle was the father. Ben tried to convince Sarah to head back to her compound, but Sarah held him at gunpoint and explained that she was going to rescue Kyle, with or without him. That discussion over, Ben and Sarah assaulted the facility and rescued Kyle. Discovering that the T-800's wreckage was being held there, Ben set up explosive charges and blew it up. During their escape, their truck was attacked by a new time-travelling Terminator that they managed to encase in concrete in a nearby construction site. Knowing that it was just a temporary solution, Ben, Kyle, and Sarah escaped from the area and later, celebrating their victory in a diner, declared that the Resistance against Skynet had started at that very moment.[6]
Five months later, the three were living together in Sarah's complex at Borrado when Sarah started having contractions. The Terminator, having freed itself from the concrete, attacked and killed Sarah's survivalist friends. Ben took Sarah to safety and Kyle was shot trying to cover them. Ben helped Sarah deliver her baby as the fatally wounded Kyle destroyed the Terminator with a rocket launcher. With his dying words, Kyle thanked his friend Ben for everything. The following day, Ben and Sarah buried Kyle and left the compound with newborn John.[3]
In the following months, Ben taught Sarah and John everything he knew about both Kyle and the future. The two of them decided to stop that future from happening and started a campaign against the creators of Skynet, blowing up a Raven Technologies facility. Ben left the Connors from time to time to check on Paige's parents. He wrote a diary of his experiences, thinking that he would some day give it to Paige herself. The always optimistic Ben knew that one day they would be together again.[3]
