In 1998, the T-800 that would become Carl tracked down the Connors and terminate John Connor in Dark Fate timeline.

Skynet deployed two T-800 Terminators: D800.L and D810.X to the Death Valley region in 1998 in pursuit of John Connor and his mother, Sarah Connor. The information targeting this location was derived from the limited data obtained during the interrogation of Lieutenant Martin Stamford in 2029. Although deployed simultaneously from 2029, there was a temporal shift that caused D800.L to arrive slightly later than D810.X and might have caused a programming imbalance in D800.L. Dark Fate timeline

When hiding in Guatemala, Sarah Connor and her son John were tracked down by a T-800 unit and John was terminated. Terminator: Dark Fate Few months later after John's demise, the T-800, who would become "Carl", saved Alicia and Mateo from an abusive husband.
